Welcome to the Jim Thorpe Area High School’s Digital Portal:

With our school district located in the foothills of the Pocono Mountains, the town of Jim Thorpe provides a historic, adventure-filled, and lively backdrop for our school district. From the historical viewpoint, the area’s rich natural resources provided the stimulus for unprecedented growth in technology, engineering, and transportation during the Nineteenth and early Twentieth Century. In 1954, the towns of Mauch Chunk and East Munch Chunk united to honor the world’s greatest athlete, Jim Thorpe, by building a memorial burial site and taking the name of Jim Thorpe. As we turn to the 21st Century, adventure sports, and tourism reshaped the economy. This distinct set of events shaped the present day characteristics of our area and our learning community.

Our teachers and staff strive to provide unique learning experiences for our students that rely on rigorous coursework, collaboration, and determination in becoming 21st-century citizens. Our standards-based curriculum and challenging lessons support student growth and achievement. Besides an extensive set of core classes in Science Math, History, and the Language Arts, we offer a full array of course in the Arts, Business, Computer Science, and Technology. The end goal: building resilient, successful, and achieving citizens.

We present many unique learning experiences for the high school student. With Lehigh Carbon Community College sharing our campus, there are many dual enrollment opportunities for students to earn high school and college credit for the same course. Our high school’s Project OLE 1:1 initiative provides a key tool to this mission in that it provides digital capabilities and access for all students 24/7.

Our 600 strong student body brings a diverse group of experiences and backgrounds to our school district and high school.  The diversity improves students’ cognitive skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving. This unified strength produces high academic achievement, creativity, cultural awareness, and the goal to be the best.

As a diverse community, we support each other in the classroom, the sports arena, or the stage where our students excel at all levels. Most students participate in several extracurricular sports, clubs, or activities that round out students’ high school experiences. These experiences help students mature with a truly global perspective and experiences that prepare them for life after high school.

After experiencing our website, I encourage you to get involved in our high school community. If you are a student, participate. If you are a parent, guardian, or community member,  we encourage you to attend athletic competitions, school plays, and concerts, to witness first-hand the spirit and pride that makes us Jim Thorpe Area High School Olympians. Thank you.
