Welcome
to the Jim Thorpe Area School District, Home of the Olympians. The
district is comprised of the borough of Jim Thorpe and the townships of
Penn Forest and South Kidder, totaling over 137 square miles. The Jim Thorpe Area School District currently hosts over 2400 students in grades K-12 and is growing.
As a rural district, the major economic base of the community is tourism. The Jim Thorpe Area School District's population
has shifted from the borough of Jim Thorpe to the two townships over
the past decade. The majority of the residents of the district commute
to the Lehigh Valley area, and the metropolitan areas of New York,
northern New Jersey and Philadelphia. Many homes in the townships are
second homes used on a seasonal basis. The costs of living, land and
lifestyle in the townships are far more appealing than in the urban
areas, which has resulted in a continuing growth in enrollment.
There
are three schools in the district, two K-8 buildings and a high school.
and one Administration Building. Information about each school can be
found below.
